Tip of the Month: The Practice of Gratitude

Gratitude of the Heart
by FearlessEyes
Gratitude is a quality similar to electricityit must be produced and discharged and used up in order to exist at all." ~ William Faulkner

If you want to feel better, more energized and attract more positive things in your world, start by practicing gratitude. If you don’t believe gratitude can shift anything in your life, try it and see what happens. It takes 21-30 days for something to become a habit. So whip out your journal and start your Practice of Gratitude today.

How to start The Practice of Gratitude:

1. If this sounds like just another chore on your never-ending to-do list then:

a) Change your perspective. Try seeing it as a goal instead of a chore.

b) Start small. Choose three things to be grateful for. They don’t have to be big momentous occasions; they can be as simple as, “I am grateful for my new toothbrush, or for the nutritious salad I had for lunch (this may sound silly, but if you are stuck in the emotions of sadness or despair then you have to start somewhere).

2. Choose what time of day works best for you. At bedtime will help you sleep better and longer. You worry less since you are replacing worry or negative thoughts with the positive vibes of gratitude.  But if this doesn’t work for you try before you get out of bed in the morning. This is great because you can’t procrastinate and it starts your day off in a positive way!

3. Choose three different things daily. This helps expand your view and it will become easier and more natural to find things to be grateful for.

4. Step up your Gratitude Practice. If you have numbers 1 and 2 down, then try this: Share your gratitude with people in your life. It might be to your BFF or to someone whom you may not even consider a friend but they taught you a great lesson. Do it in person, over the phone, or write them a letter.

Bringing more gratitude into your life will shift how you see the world and the people you engage with. Your thoughts will naturally become more positive, you will begin to feel better, and even be more inclined to help others on their journey.

Start your Practice of Gratitude today. Post here and share how you’re doing. What shifts are you noticing in your life? Sit in your heart space and let the gratitude flow!
